The Belton New Tech Dragons continued their cross country season on Wednesday, September 9, competing at the West High School Cross Country Meet. Both the boys and girls teams took on a competitive field and gained another valuable race as they continue working toward the championship portion of the season.

In the girls’ two-mile race, Ellie Megoulloa led the Dragons with a strong performance, finishing 65th with a time of 15:46. Daniella Idumebor was next across the line for New Tech, placing 116th in 17:38, followed by Nyla Mathews, who finished 123rd in 18:18.

Rounding out the girls’ team were Melyann Tort-Negron, who finished 157th with a time of 23:43, and Julisa Bedolla-Martinez, who placed 159th in 27:33.

The Dragon boys competed in the 5,000-meter race, with Daniel Zubaty once again leading the way for New Tech. Zubaty turned in a strong 21:14, earning 41st place overall.

David Martinez finished 107th in 24:51, followed closely by Abel Carey, who placed 117th with a time of 25:37. Desmond Long crossed the finish line in 26:58 for 127th place, while Ezra Valatine finished 133rd in 27:30. Zorian Hajduk completed the Dragons’ lineup, finishing 150th with a time of 32:10.

The West meet provided another opportunity for the Dragons to test themselves against a large field and continue building race experience. With each meet, the New Tech runners are learning how to compete through the challenges of cross country while continuing to push themselves and support their teammates.

The Dragons will look to carry that experience and determination into their next competition as they continue the 2026 cross country season.
