Both the JV and Varsity Dragon tennis teams traveled to Waco to participate in the Waco ISD Winter Blast tournament. While both teams started off slow, several teams and individuals turned it on to bring home some victories.
In Varsity Boys Singles, Leland Moore lost his first match but won out to bring home the Consolation medal. In Varsity Boys Doubles, Colton Fry and Ethan Borchers fought all the way to the Consolation finals and came up just short. In Boys Doubles B, Anthony Clay and Zaylen Kimball took home the 2nd place medals after going 3-1 in round robin play. And lastly, in Mixed Doubles, Alex Miranda and Tran Le brought home the Consolation medals as well.
In JV Boys Singles, Julian Graner and Aaron Bolen met in the Consolation finals and Graner just outlasted Bolen to take the Consolation medal. In the Boys Doubles A draw, Gracin Catterton and Jett Lopez breezed to a Consolation medal while Aidan Wills and Gavin Tull came up just short in the 3rd place match. In the Boys Doubles B draw, Zak Ybarra and Stephen Hobson faced George Drake and Owen Woods in the Consolation finals and Ybarra and Hobson just barely edged out the other New Tech team, 7-5 to win the Consolation medal. And finally, in Mixed Doubles, Desmond Long and Annabel Ferniza just lost out on 3rd place, falling 6-4 in their final match.
Overall, the Dragons bounced back well and were able to bring home some hardware. They look to continue their success at our very own Dragon Invites on February 10th and February 12th for JV and Varsity respectively.
