New Tech Dragons Push Limits at the Roy & Jean Potts Invite

The Roy & Jean Potts Invite brought together some of the region's most dedicated swimmers for a day of intense competition and camaraderie. Known for its fast-paced events and rich tradition, this meet once again served as a proving ground for teams aiming to showcase their skill and determination. The New Tech Dragons came ready to compete, demonstrating their growth and teamwork throughout the day. With personal bests and standout relay performances, the Dragons made their presence known among a field of talented athletes.
Record Breaking Performances:
-Miller Epperson (09) placed 5th in the Girls’ 100 Yard Backstroke and lowered her team record to 1:19.35.
-Jayden Stilley (10) secured 3rd place in the Boys’ 50 Yard Freestyle and lowered his team record with a final time of 25.05.
-Girls’ 200 Yard Medley Relay: Epperson, Benavente, Nett, and Thomas came together and secured a 4th place finish with a new team record of 2:18.87.
-Boys’ 200 Yard Freestyle Relay: Stilley, Wright, Johnston, and Tort-Negron finished 7th with a new team record of 1:50.69. During the leadoff, Stilley lowered his record in the 50 Freestyle to a 24.62.
-Girls’ 400 Yard Freestyle Relay: Thomas, Benavente, Epperson, and Nett finished the day together with a 3rd place finish with a new team record of 4:33.54.
Notable Performances:


-Alexa Benavente (11) finished 23rd in the Girls' 50 Yard Freestyle with a new best time of 33.62. She finished the day with a 12th place finish in the Girls’ 100 Yard Breaststroke with a new best time of 1:38.16.
-Miller Epperson (09) finished 6th in the Girls’ 100 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 1:07.14.
-Deion Johnston (11) placed 23rd in the Boys' 100 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 1:07.79. He went on to finish 11th in the Boys' 100 Yard Backstroke with a new best time of 1:17.47.
-Niylah Nett (09) picked up a 4th place finish in the Girls’ 50 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 28.38. She went on to claim 2nd place in the Girls’ 100 Yard Freestyle with a new best time of 1:01.94.
-Jayden Stilley (10) grabbed 4th place in the Boys’ 500 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 5:54.15.
-Claire Thomas (11) finished 2nd in the Girls’ 200 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 2:12.81. She went on to take 1st place in the Girls’ 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:59.93.
-Caleb Tort-Negron (11) took 5th in the Boys' 100 Yard Butterfly with a final time of 1:05.78. He finished his day with the Boys’ 100 Yard Backstroke where he finished 9th with a time of 1:12.19.
-Tristen Wright (11) took 24th in the Boys' 50 Yard Freestyle with a new best time of 29.08. He finished his day with the Boys’ 100 Yard Freestyle where he finished 35th with a final time of 1:14.36.
-Boys’ 400 Yard Freestyle Relay: Tort-Negron, Wright, Johnston, and Stilley finished the day with a 6th place finish and a final time of 4:18.82.
As the Roy & Jean Potts invite came to a close, the Dragons left the pool with their heads held high, proud of their efforts and eager for their challenges ahead. From individual achievements to team-wide successes, the meet was a testament to their hard work and potential. The Dragons extend their gratitude to the competitors and supporters who made their invite a success. With this experience under their caps, the team looks forward to continuing their momentum as the season progresses.
