Hoot’n’Holler Highlights: Dragons Build Momentum for the Season

The excitement was palpable as teams gathered for the annual Hoot'n'Holler meet, hosted by Burnet, an event known for its spirited competition and lively atmosphere. Swimmers from across the region came ready to showcase their talent in a series of fast-paced, adrenaline-filled races. Burnet's hospitality and attention to detail set the perfect stage for a memorable day, where athletes pushed their limits and spectators cheered with enthusiasm. With standout performances and plenty of personal bests, the Hoot'n'Holler once again proved why it's a highlight of the season.

Record Breaking Performances:

-Niylah Nett (09) picked up an 8th place finish in the Girls’ 50 Yard Freestyle and grabbed a new team record with a final time of 29.36.
-Claire Thomas (11) finished 3rd in the Girls’ 100 Yard Freestyle with a new team record of 1:01.61.

Notable Performances:

-Alexa Benavente (11) started her morning off with the Girls' 50 Yard Breaststroke where she placed 26th with a final time of 47.05.
-Miller Epperson (09) finished 11th in the Girls’ 50 Yard Backstroke with a final time of 36.28. She finished her day with the Girls’ 100 Yard Freestyle where she placed 14th with a final time of 1:08.41.
-Deion Johnston (11) placed 17th in the Boys' 50 Yard Backstroke with a final time of 36.27. He went on to finish 36th in the Boys' 50 Yard Freestyle with a new best time of 30.58.
-Niylah Nett (09) picked up a 7th place finish in the Girls’ 50 Yard Butterfly with a final time of 30.05.
-Claire Thomas (11) finished 14th in the Girls’ 50 Yard Butterfly with a final time of 31.75.
-Caleb Tort-Negron (11) took 10th in the Boys' 50 Yard Butterfly with a final time of 28.33. He finished his day with the Boys’ 100 Yard Freestyle where he finished 8th with a time of 58.21.
-Zayne Williford (10) placed 2nd in the Boys’ 50 Yard Breaststroke with a final time of 23.34. He went on to finish 10th in the Boys’ 100 Yard Individual Medley with a final time of 1:05.11.
-Tristen Wright (11) took 38th in the Boys' 50 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 31.87. He finished his day with the Boys’ 100 Yard Freestyle where he finished 37th with a final time of 1:17.84.
-Mixed 200 Yard Medley Relay: The A relay, composed of Johnston, Williford, Nett, and Thomas secured a 9th place finish with a final time of 2:07.92. The B relay with Epperson, Benavente, Tort-Negron, and Wright took 24th with a 2:22.19.
-Mixed 100 Yard Sweatshirt Relay: Williford, Epperson, Nett, and Tort-Negron came together and placed 19th with a final time of 2:00.42.

As the Hoot’n’Holler wrapped up, the New Tech Dragons reflected on an inspiring day of competition. From impressive times to unwavering team support, the Dragons made their presence felt throughout the meet, showing just how far they’ve come. The team would like to extend a sincere thank you to Burnet for hosting such a well-organized event and to all the families, friends, and fans who came to cheer them on. With momentum building and a strong foundation set, the Dragons are looking forward to what’s shaping up to be an exciting season ahead.
