The Dragons tennis program showed determination and competitive spirit at the 19-3A District Tournament this week, with both Varsity and JV players delivering strong performances.
At the Varsity District Tournament held on Monday, April 6th at Franklin High School, several Dragons advanced deep into the bracket. Annabel Ferniza battled her way to the Quarterfinals in Girls Singles, while Tim McPike matched that achievement on the boys’ side, advancing to the Quarterfinals in Boys Singles. In Boys Doubles, the team of Leland Moore and Zaylen Kimball also made an impressive run, reaching the Quarterfinals and showcasing strong teamwork and consistency.
The JV Dragons competed on Tuesday, April 7th and had an outstanding showing at their district tournament, highlighted by dominant performances in Boys Singles and Doubles. Zak Ybarra captured 1st place in Boys Singles after a thrilling and hard-fought match against Thrall, winning with a score of 8-7 (8-6) in a tiebreaker. Julian Graner added to the success with a 3rd place finish in Boys Singles, while the duo of Aidan Wills and Gavin Tull secured 3rd place in Boys Doubles.
With multiple top finishes across events, the JV boys accumulated enough points to earn the District Championship title, marking a significant accomplishment for the program.
Overall, it was a successful district tournament for the Dragons, with both Varsity and JV players demonstrating growth, resilience, and a competitive edge that continues to build momentum for the program. As the 2025–2026 season comes to a close, the Dragons can take pride in a year defined by hard work, improvement, and competitive success, setting a strong foundation for the future of the program.
