On Friday, August 22, the Dragons traveled to Killeen to take on the Killeen Kangaroos in a non-district dual match. Riding a win streak, the Dragons wasted no time building an early lead, dropping only one doubles match.

In boys’ doubles, the teams of Leland Moore and Zaylen Kimball (4-0, 4-1) and Gracin Catterton and Jett Lopez (4-2, 4-2) both secured victories, with Moore and Kimball extending their winning streak to two straight matches. In mixed doubles, Samantha McKenzie and Tim McPike (4-2, 4-2) also came away with a strong win. On the girls’ side, the Dragons swept all three doubles courts. Annabel Ferniza and Carime Montez (4-1, 5-3) and Aubrie Bower and Taylor Clay (4-0, 4-0) turned in dominant performances, while Hope Boettger and Harper Lee collected the win after their opponents were forced to retire.

The Dragons carried that momentum into singles play, where they continued to shine. On the boys’ side, victories came from Moore (5-4 [12-10], 4-2), Kimball (2-4, 4-2, 10-2), Tim McPike (5-4 [7-4], 4-1), Aidan Finn (5-3, 4-0), and Desmond Long (1-4, 4-2, 10-5). For the girls, Ferniza (4-0, 4-2), Jessica Delgado (4-0, 4-0), and Lee (4-0, 4-0) each earned decisive wins.

When the final point was played, the Dragons claimed a 14-5 overall victory over the Kangaroos. They’ll look to extend their momentum as district play resumes Thursday, August 28, against Cameron High School at the UMHB Yvonne Li Tennis Courts.
